Lapeer Schools Community –
We wanted to make you aware of a situation early this morning at Lapeer High School where a weapon was discovered by district staff in the building parking lot.
District administration and Lapeer City Police Department officials quickly determined prior to the start of the school day the weapon was the property of a law enforcement agent outside of Lapeer County. Lapeer City Police leadership has been in contact with that outside agency and has assumed control of the investigation at this time.
As an additional precautionary measure, both the exterior and interior of Lapeer High School were searched extensively and no further evidence was discovered.
As a result of the collaborative efforts of district and city officials, it was determined that our students and staff were never in any danger.
Please know that throughout Lapeer Community Schools, student and staff safety is always our utmost priority.
