The Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) hosted its annual College Access Impact Awards dinner this week to honor those visionary leaders in the college access and attainment world.
This year, MCAN is pleased to have selected Lapeer High School counselor Julie Pecore as the 2025 recipient of the Passport Award.
“I am honored and thankful to work alongside so many dedicated colleagues and community partners who believe our students deserve every opportunity to succeed after high school," said Pecore.
As noted by Ann Konarski, LCAN coordinator, “I am very appreciative of the support and mentoring afforded to me by Julie. The LCAN would not be as strong today if not for leaders like Julie, who took time to make sure I was introduced, connected, and supported from the very beginning. Her generosity of spirit continues to strengthen our network and inspire others to lead with the same openness and care.”
The Passport Award recognizes those that strengthen the college access work or field as described below:
School counseling programs play a vital role in ensuring students are provided the support they need to enroll in and complete college – a key component to Michigan meeting the Sixty by 30 Goal. Michigan College Access Network works to ensure college and career readiness is a priority within school counseling programs.
The recipient of this award is an individual school counselor or school counseling program that has made significant strides in advancing the college readiness and enrollment supports and services provided to students, which assists in moving the needle on critical postsecondary metrics.
Julie was selected based on several factors, including:
-- Have been deeply engaged with MCAN since the very beginning and have been a constant champion of the work at every school you have served
-- Have brought and embedded College Bound Michigan to each school
-- Part of the original cohort for College Planning Course and helped start a Local College Access Network
-- Engaged and supportive member of the counselor community, offering advice and thought partnership
The College Access Impact Awards dinner took place November 4 at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Mich., as part of MCAN's annual conference.
Congratulations to Julie on this distinguished recognition! We cannot thank her enough for all that she does in support of Sixty by 30!
