Lapeer Community Schools is announcing the departure of district athletic director and Center For Innovation principal Shad Spilski, effective June 30, 2026.
Spilski has accepted a position at Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas, as the school’s athletic director/assistant principal.
"In his 12 years with Lapeer Community Schools, Shad has consistently found new and innovative ways to grow our athletic department, student programming at the Center for Innovation, as well as the Lapeer Virtual Partnership program," said LCS superintendent Matt Wandrie. “Shad has been an indispensable part of the district’s leadership team. Make no mistake, this is a huge loss for our district, and we wish him all the best.”
"This was obviously a tough decision to make," added Spilski. "Lapeer has been home for my wife and I for the last 12 years and I truly love this district and this community. I have made lifelong friends and colleagues here and I will always cherish those relationships. Most of all, I am going to miss watching our students succeed in the classroom and the athletic arena. Lapeer will always be a special place for us.”
During his tenure with LCS athletics, Spilski oversaw two individual state champions, two regional champions, 11 district champions, 14 league champions and dozens of Lapeer student-athletes advance their careers to the collegiate level.
With Spilski's departure, Lapeer Community Schools is exploring options for his replacement.
